I need to be surprised by the story, too

A book shouldn’t be too planned out. If I know what’s going to happen from page one, chances are you will, too. A story needs room to tell itself, even to the author.

For me, fiction was predetermined. I came from a family of six noisy kids — second to last in the pecking order. To be heard at the kitchen table, I had to tell a good story. As my family will attest, I was a full-on fabrication machine.

Currently, I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with my wife and two sons. Where the stories continue to fly. Connect with Kerry.
